Over 12 miles later

I skipped my planned run today because the whole family was awake before 6:00 and ready to hit the streets at 7:00.  The sun comes up really early in London at this time of year!

We began our day with a walk through Hyde Park on our way to find a coffee shop before heading to Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square.  This weekend London is celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday, so we had a quick view of the palace and surrounding area before heading to less trafficked areas.

We saw this cute little doorway on our walk to Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery.

Then passed one of many streets that looked like this…

I loved seeing the cool, red phone booths all over.

Next we stopped for some traditional English breakfast before heading out into the rain on our way to Big Ben and the London Eye.

Did I mention it rained a bit during this part of the day?

Here’s the view from the Eye and also another shot to show what the “pods” look like.

Next we headed on along the Thames, through some cool little side streets on our way to the Tower Bridge.

Quick stop at the Somerset House.
Then to a pub for fish and chips, followed by gelato in Soho and a ride home on the double decker bus.

In addition, to all that, tour guide Spencer also took us to Picadilly Circus and Oxford Street, as well as on a short ride on the Tube. I’m sure I’m forgetting something, but you get the idea. It was a Full day.

And, finally after over 12.5 miles of walking, we had dinner at a neighborhood pub with our friends.  Now bed.
